Coming of the Light:
Greetings:………………………………………………..Pastor Liz
Announcements:………………………………………….Lorri B.
Call to Worship:………………………………………Melrose D.
O God, you pour out your spirit of grace and love.
Deliver us from cold hearts and wandering thoughts,
that with burning zeal and steady minds
We may worship you in spirit and truth. Amen.
Opening Prayer:………………………………………Melrose D.
O God, we are so grateful for your abiding love. We pray that we may embody a spirit of love and self-discipline, grounded in the power of your grace. We are taught in so many ways-some subtle ways, some blatant ways-to fulfill all of our wants by consuming things. Remind us during this moment that we are called to invest in you. We join Christians around the world today who proclaim Jesus Christ as Savior. May we draw strength from this unity and from this act of sacrificial giving. In the name of one God, who offers grace, mercy, and peace, we pray. Amen.
Opening Hymn:….“In Unity We Lift Our Song” #2221 TFWS
Words by Ken Medema © 1994 Brier Patch Music; Music by Martin Luther
1. In unity we lift our song of grateful adoration,
for brothers brave and sisters strong.
What cause for celebration!
For those whose faithfulness has kept us through distress,
who’ve shared with us our plight, who’ve held us in the night,
the blessed congregation.
2. For stories told and told again to every generation,
to give us strength in times of pain,
to give us consultation.
Our spirits to revive to keep our dreams alive,
when we are far from home and evil seasons come;
how firm is our foundation.
3. For sacred scriptures handed down,
a blessed trust and treasure,
which give us hope when hope is gone
and make us weep with pleasure.
And when our eyes grow blind and death is close behind,
we shall recite them still whose words our hearts can fill
With hope beyond all measure.
4. For God our way, our bread, our rest,
of all these gifts the Giver.
Our strength, our guide, our nurturing breast
whose hand will yet deliver.
Who keeps us till the day when night shall pass away,
when hate and fear are gone and all our work is done,
and we shall sing forever.

The Prayers of the People:………………………….Pastor Liz
Scripture Lesson: ………….Luke 17:5-10…….Melrose D.
The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”
The Lord replied, “If you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted, and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.
“Would any of you say to your servant, who had just come in from the field after plowing or tending sheep, ‘Come! Sit down
for dinner’? Wouldn’t you say instead, ‘Fix my dinner. Put on the clothes of a table servant and wait on me while I eat and drink. After that, you can eat and drink’? You won’t thank the servant because the servant did what you asked, will you? In the same way, when you have done everything required of you, you should say, ‘We servants deserve no special praise. We have only done
our duty.”
Hymn of Preparation:“Great Is Thy Faithfulness” #140 UMH
Words: Thomas O. Chisholm, 1923
Music: William M. Runyan, 1923 © 1923, Hope
Publishing Co.
1. Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
there is no shadow of turning with thee; thou
changest not, thy compassions, they fail not;
as thou hast been, thou forever wilt be.
Refrain
Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!
morning by morning new mercies I see; all I
have needed thy hand hath provided; great
is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
2. Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
sun, moon, and stars in their courses above join
with all nature in manifold witness to thy great
faithfulness, mercy, and love.
Refrain
Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!
morning by morning new mercies I see; all I
have needed thy hand hath provided; great
is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, thine
own dear presence to cheer and to guide; strength
for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings
all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Refrain
Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!
morning by morning new mercies I see; all I
have needed thy hand hath provided; great
is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

CONFESSION & PARDON
Pastor Liz: Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
All pray in silence.
Pastor Liz: Hear the good news:
Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
All: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
All: Glory to God. Amen.
THE PEACE
Let us offer one another signs of reconciliation and love.
All, including the pastor, exchange signs and words of God’s peace by crossing hands, wave to one another due to social distancing guidelines.
Pastor Liz: The Lord be with you.
All: And also with you.
Pastor Liz: Lift up your hearts. The pastor may lift hands and keep them raised.
All: We lift them up to the Lord.
Pastor Liz: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Pastor Liz: And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Pastor Liz: In union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
All: Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Pastor Liz: All honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and forever.
All: Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Closing Hymn: “Sent Forth by God’s Blessing” #664 UMH
Words: Omer Westendor, 1964 Music: Welsh folk tune;
Words © 1964 World Library Publications, Inc.; harm,
© 1972 Contemporary Worship 4
1. Sent forth by God’s blessing, our true faith confessing,
the people of God from this dwelling take leave.
The service is ended, O now be extended the fruits of
our worship in all who believe.
The seed of the teaching, receptive souls reaching,
shall blossom in action for God and for all.
God’s grace did invite us, and love shall unite us
to work for God’s kingdom and answer the call.
2. With praise and thanksgiving to God ever living,
the tasks of our everyday life we will face.
Our faith ever sharing, in love ever caring,
embracing God’s children of each tribe and race.
With your grace you feed us, with your light now lead us;
unite us as one in this life that we share. Then may all
the living with praise and thanksgiving give honor
to Christ and that name which we bear.
