Coming of the Light:…………………………………..

Greetings:……………………………………Pastor Steven

Opening Prayer: ……………………………….……Ian D.
O God, make the door of this house wide enough
       to receive all who need human love and fellowship,
       narrow enough to shut out envy, pride, and strife.
Make its threshold smooth enough
       to be no stumbling block to children,
nor to straying feet,
but rugged and strong enough to turn back
evil’s power.
God, make the door of this house
       the gateway to your eternal kingdom.
Amen.

“Because He Lives” #364 UMH
Words: Gloria and William J. Gaither, 1971,
Music: William J. Gaither, 1971 © 1971 William J. Gaither

1. God sent his Son, they called him Jesus;
he came to love, hea., and forgive;
he lived and died to buy my pardon,
an empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.

Because he lives, I can face to tomorrow;
because he lives, all fear is gone;
because I know he holds the future,
and life is worth the living just because he lives.

2. How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
and feel the pride and joy he gives;
but greater still the calm assurance,
this child can face uncertain days because he lives.

Because he lives, I can face to tomorrow;
because he lives, all fear is gone;
because I know he holds the future,
and life is worth the living just because he lives.

3. And then one day I’ll cross the river;
I’ll fight life’s final war with pain;
and then as death gives way to victory,
I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know he reigns.

Because he lives, I can face to tomorrow;
because he lives, all fear is gone;
because I know he holds the future,
and life is worth the living just because he lives.

Prediction of the passion

They went on from there and passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know it,  for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again.”  But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him.
Then they came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the way?”  But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest.  He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.”  Then he took a little child and put it among them, and taking it in his arms he said to them,  “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.”
