Greetings:……………………………………Pastor Steven

Opening Prayer: …………………………….…Elizabeth B.
O Lord,
 open my eyes that I may see the needs of others;
 open my ears that I may hear their cries;
 open my heart so that they need not be without succor;
let me not be afraid to defend the weak because of the anger of the strong,
 nor afraid to defend the poor because of the anger of
 the rich.
Show me where love and hope and faith are needed,
 and use me to bring them to those places.
And so open my eyes and my ears
 that I may this coming day be able to do some work of
 peace for thee.  Amen.

1. God forgave my sin in Jesus’ name,
I’ve been born again in Jesus’ name,
And in Jesus’ name I come to you,
To share his love as he told me to.

He said, “Freely, freely you have received,
freely, freely give.
Go in my name, and because you believe,
others will know that I live.”

2. All power is given in Jesus’ name,
In earth and heaven in Jesus’ name,
And in Jesus’ name I come to you,
To share his power as he told me to.

He said, “Freely, freely you have received,
freely, freely give.
Go in my name, and because you believe,
others will know that l live.”

Old Testament Lesson:2 Samuel 11:26–12:13a…Elizabeth B.
When the wife of Uriah heard that her husband was dead, she made lamentation for him.  When the mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son.
But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD,
and the LORD sent Nathan to David. He came to him and said to him, “There were two men in a certain city, the one rich and the other poor. The rich man had very many flocks and herds, but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb that he had bought. He brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his children; it used to eat of his meager fare and drink from his cup and lie in his bosom, and it was like a daughter to him.  Now there came a traveler to the rich man, and he was loath to take one of his own flock or herd to prepare for the wayfarer who had come to him, but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared that for the guest who had come to him.”  Then David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man. He said to Nathan, “As the LORD lives, the man who has done this deserves to die; he shall restore the lamb fourfold because he did this thing and because he had no pity.”
Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: I anointed you king over Israel, and I rescued you from the hand of Saul;

  • I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your bosom and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah, and if that had been too little, I would have added as much more.  Why have you despised the word of the LORD, to do what is evil in his sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and have taken his wife to be your wife and have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.  Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, for you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife. Thus says the LORD: I will raise up trouble against you from within your own house, and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in broad daylight. For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel and in broad daylight.”

David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.”

Hymn of Preparation:“O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee”  #430 UMH
Words: Washington Gladden, 1879 Music: H. Percy Smith, 1874
1. O Master, let me walk with thee in lowly paths
of service free; tell me thy secret; Help me bear
the strain of toil, the fret of care.

2. Help me the slow of heart to move by some
clear, winning word of love; teach me the wayward
feet to stay, and guide them in the homeward way.

3. Teach me thy patience; still with thee in closer,
Dearer company, in work that keeps faith sweet
And strong, in trust that triumphs over wrong;

4. In hope that sends a shining ray far down the
future’s broadening ways, in peace that only
thou canst give, with thee, O Master, let me live.
