Opening Prayer: ………….…….……….……Beverly B.
As the sun rises, so does our prayer, loving God.
With each new dawn, renew our trust in you,
our delight to do justice, and our gladness to be
in your presence. Amen.
Opening Hymns:“Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty” #64 UMH
Words: Regional Heber, 1826 Music: John B. Dykes, 1861
1.Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!
2.Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,
casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.
3.Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see,
only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,
perfect in power, in love and purity.
4.Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth and sky and sea.
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity.
“Wash, O God, Our Sons and Daughters” #605 UMH
Words: Ruth Duck, 1987 Music: Attr. B. F. White, 1844
Words © 1989 The United Methodist Publishing House
1. Wash, O God, our sons and daughters, where your
cleansing waters flow. Number them among your
people; bless as Christ blessed long ago. Weave them
garments bright and sparkling; compass them with love
and light. Fill, anoit them; send your Spirit, holy
dove and heart’s delight.
2. We who bring them long for nurture; by your milk
may we be fed. Let us join your feast, partaking cult
of blessing, living bread. God, renew us, guide our
footsteps; free from sin and all its snares, one with
Christ in living, dying, by your spirit, children, heirs.
3. O how deep your holy wisdom! Unimagined, all
your ways! To your name be glory, honor! With our
lives we worship, praise! We your people stand before
you, water washed and Spirit born. By your grace,
our lives we offer. Recreate us; God, transform!

Gospel Lesson:…………..John 3:1-17………………Beverly B.
Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. He came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God.”
Jesus answered him, “Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above.”
Nicodemus said to him, “How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.
What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be astonished that I said to you, ‘You must be born from above.’ The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?”
Jesus answered him, “Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things? “Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Hymn of Preparation: “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace”
Words: Prayer of St. Francis Music: Sebastian Temple © 1967 OCP Publications
1. Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord,
and where there’s doubt, true faith in you.
2. Make me a channel of your peace. Where there’s despair
in life, let me bring hope. Where there is darkness, only
light, and where there’s sadness, ever joy.
3. Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be
consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love with all my soul.
4. Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning
that we are pardoned, in giving of ourselves that we receive,
and in dying that we’re born to eternal life.
Sermon:..“Walk Through the Doorless Door”…Pastor Steven
Closing Hymn:. “America the Beautiful” #696 UMH
Words: Katharine Lee Bates, 1904, Music: Samuel A. Ward, 1888
1. O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of
grain; for purple mountain majesties above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed his grace on thee, and crown thy
good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.
2. O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife; who more
than self their country loved, and mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine, till all success
be nobleness, and every gain divine.
3. O beautiful for patriot dream that sees beyond the years
thine alabaster cities gleam, undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God mend thine every flaw, confirm thy
soul in self control, thy liberty in law.
