Coming of the Light:……………………………………………..

Greetings:……………………………………Pastor Steven

Opening Prayer: ………………………..……Melrose D.
O gracious God, we pray for your holy Church universal,
that you would be pleased to fill with all truth,
in all peace.
Where it is corrupt, purify it;
where it is in error, direct it;
where in any thing it is amiss, reform it;
where it is divided, reunite it;
for the sake of him who died and rose again,
       And ever lives to make intercession for us,
       Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord.  Amen.
(The Book of Common Prayer, USA)

Opening Hymns:“Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart”  #160 UMH
(v. 1-3)
Words: Edward H. Plumptre, 1865, Music: Arthur H. Messiter, 1889

1. Rejoice, ye pure in heart; rejoice, give thanks, and sing;
your glorious banner wave on high, the cross of Christ your King.
Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice, give thanks and sing.

2. Your clear hosannas raise, and alleluias loud; whilst answering echoes upward float, like wreaths of incense cloud.
Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice, give thanks and sing.

3. Yes, on through life’s long path, still chanting as ye go; from youth to age, by night and day, in gladness and in woe.
Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice, give thanks and sing.

How Great Thou Art  #77, UMH
Words and Music: Stuart K. Hine, 1953 © 1953, renewed 1981
Manna Music, Inc.

1. O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder
consider all the worlds thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee;
how great thou art, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee;
how great thou art, how great thou art!

2. When through the woods and forest glades I wander,
and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
and hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze;

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee;
how great thou art, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee;
how great thou art, how great thou art!

3. And when I think that God, his Son not sparing,
Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin;

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee;
how great thou art, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee;
how great thou art, how great thou art!”

4. When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim, my God, how great thou art!

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee;
how great thou art, how great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee;
how great thou art, how great thou art!”

Gospel Lesson:…………John 2:13-22……………Melrose D.
The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables.

Making a whip of cords, he drove all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He also poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. He told those who were selling the doves, “Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father’s house a marketplace!”

His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.” The Jews then said to him, “What sign can you show us for doing this?”
Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” The Jews then said, “This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?”

But he was speaking of the temple of his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.

Hymn of Preparation: “You Are My All in All #3040 W&S
Words and Music: Dennis Jernigan, arr. By William S. Moon
© 1991 Shepherd’s Heart Music, Inc.

1. You are my strength when I am weak.
You are the treasure that I seek.
You are my all in all.
Seeking you as a precious jewel,
Lord, to give up I’d be a fool.
You are my all in all.

2. Taking my sin, my cross, my shame,
rising again I bless your name,
You are my all in all.
When I fall down you pick me up.
When I am dry you fill my cup.
You are my all in all.

Refrain
Jesus, Lamb of God, worthy is your name.
Jesus, Lamb of God, worthy is your name.

Jesus, Lamb of God, worthy is your name.
Jesus, Lamb of God, worthy is your name.

CONFESSION & PARDON

Pastor Steven: Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

All pray in silence.

Pastor Steven: Hear the good news:
Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
All: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
All:  Glory to God. Amen.

THE PEACE

Let us offer one another signs of reconciliation and love.
All, including the pastor, exchange signs and words of God’s peace by crossing hands, wave to one another due to social distancing guidelines.

Pastor Steven: The Lord be with you.
All: And also with you.
Pastor Steven: Lift up your hearts. The pastor may lift hands and keep them raised.
All: We lift them up to the Lord.
Pastor Steven: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Pastor Steven: And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Pastor Steven: In union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
All: Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Pastor Steven: All honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and forever.
All: Amen.

1. Oh, to see the dawn of the darkest day;
Christ on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men, torn and beaten then
nailed to a cross of wood.
Refrain
This is the power of the cross; Christ became
sin for us.  Took the blame, bore the
wrath, we stand forgiven at the cross.

2. Oh, to see the pain written on your face,
bearing the awesome weight of sin.
Every bitter thought, every evil deed
crowning your blood stained brow.
Refrain
This is the power of the cross; Christ became
sin for us.  Took the blame, bore the
wrath, we stand forgiven at the cross.

3. Now the daylight flees; now the ground beneath
quakes as its Maker bows his head.
Curtain torn in two, dead are raised to life.
“Finished!” the victory cry.
Refrain
This is the power of the cross; Christ became
sin for us.  Took the blame, bore the
wrath, we stand forgiven at the cross.

4. Oh, to see my name written in the wounds,
for through your suffering I am free.
Death is crushed to death, life is mine to live,
won through your selfless love!
Refrain
This the power of the cross; Son of God
slain for us.  What a love, what a cost!
We stand forgiven at the cross.
