God of justice,
your word is light and truth.
Let your face shine on us to restore us,
that we may walk in your way,
seeking justice and doing good. Amen.

Opening Hymns:“God of Grace and God of Glory #577 UMH
Words: Harry Emerson Frosdick, 1930
Music: John Hughes, 1907

1.God of grace and God of glory, on thy people
pour thy power; crown thine ancient church’s story
bring her bud to glorious flower.  Grant us wisdom,
grant of courage, for the facing of this hour
for the facing of this hour.

2.Lo! The hosts of evil round us scorn thy Christ,
assail his ways! Fears and doubts too long have bound
us, free our hearts to work and praise.  Grant us wisdom,
grant us courage, for the living of these days,
for the living of these days.

3.Cure thy children’s warring madness, bend our pride
to thy control; shame our wanton, selfish gladness,
rich in things and poor in soul.  Grant us wisdom,
grant us courage, lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal,
lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal.

4.Save us from weak resignation to the evils we
deplore; let the search for thy salvation be our glory
evermore. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, serving
thee whom we adore, serving thee whom we adore.

Hymn of Preparation: “O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee  #430 UMH
Words: Washington Gladden, 1879  Music: H. Percy Smith, 1874

1.O Master, let me walk with thee in lowly paths
of service free; tell me thy secret; help me bear
the strain of toil, the fret of care.

2.Help me the slow of heart to move by some
clear, winning word of love; teach me the wayward
feet to stay, and guide them in the homeward way.

3.Teach me thy patience; still with thee in closer,
dearer company, in work that keeps faith sweet
and strong, in trust that triumphs over wrong;

4.In hope that sends a shining ray far down the
future’s broadening ways, in peace that only
thou canst give, with thee, O Master, let me live.

New Testament Lesson:….Luke 10:25-37.…..Shirley G.

Luke 10:25-37
10:25 Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 10:26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?”

10:27 He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”10:28 And he said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.”

10:29 But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”10:30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead.

10:31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.10:32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

10:33 But a Samaritan while traveling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity.10:34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 10:35 The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, ‘Take care of him; and when I come back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.’10:36 Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?”

10:37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

Closing Hymn:“Sent Out in Jesus’ Name#2184 TFWS
Words: Anon.;trans. By Jorge Maldonado, alt.
Music: Trad. Cuban, arr. By Carmen Peña
Trans ©1988, arr. © 1996 Abingdon Press

Sent out in Jesus’ name, our hands are ready now to
make the earth the place in which the kingdom comes.

The angels cannot change a world of hurt and pain
into a world of love, of justice and of peace.  The
task is ours to do, to set it really free.  O help us
to obey and carry out your will.

CONFESSION & PARDON

Pastor Steven: Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
All pray in silence.

Pastor Steven: Hear the good news:
Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

All: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
All:  Glory to God. Amen.

THE PEACE
Let us offer one another signs of reconciliation and love.
All, including the pastor, exchange signs and words of God’s peace by crossing hands, wave to one another due to social distancing guidelines.

Pastor Steven: The Lord be with you.
All: And also with you.
Pastor Steven: Lift up your hearts. The pastor may lift hands and keep them raised.
All: We lift them up to the Lord.
Pastor Steven: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Pastor Steven: And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Pastor Steven: In union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.

All: Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Pastor Steven: All honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and forever.
All: Amen.
