Opening Hymn: “Go Down, Moses” #448
The United Methodist Hymnal
© 1989 The United Methodist Publishing House
Words and Music: African American spiritual, adapted and arranged by William Farley Smith, Exodus 3:7-12
“1. When Israel was in Egypt’s land, let my people go;
oppressed so hard they could not stand, let my people go.
Go down (go down) Moses (Moses)
way down in Egypt’s land;
tell old Pharaoh to let my people go!
2. “Thus saith the Lord,” bold Moses said,
let my people go;
“if not, I’ll smite your firstborn dead,”
let my people go.
Go down (go down) Moses (Moses)
way down in Egypt’s land;
tell old Pharaoh to let my people go!
3. No more shall they in bondage toil,
let my people go;
let them come out with Egypt’s spoil,
let my people go.
Go down (go down) Moses (Moses)
way down in Egypt’s land;
tell old Pharaoh to let my people go!
4. We need not always weep and mourn,
let my people go;
and wear those slavery chains forlorn,
let my people go.
Go down (go down) Moses (Moses)
way down in Egypt’s land;
tell old Pharaoh to let my people go!
5. Come, Moses, you will not get lost,
let my people go;
stretch out your rod and come across,
let my people go.
Go down (go down) Moses (Moses)
way down in Egypt’s land;
tell old Pharaoh to let my people go!”

Hymn of Preparation: “Thy Word is a Lamp” #601
in The UM Hymnal
Words by Amy Grant, music by Michael W. Smith, arranged by Keith Phillips
© 1984 Meadowgreen Music Co. / Bug and Bear Music
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
1. When I feel afraid, think I’ve lost my way,
still you’re there right beside me,
and nothing will I fear as long as you are near.
Please be near me to the end.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
2. Now I will not forget your love for me and yet
my heart forever is wandering.
Jesus, be my guide and hold me to your side,
and I will love you to the end.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”

Offertory: “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow” #95
The Doxology, The United Methodist Hymnal
Words by Thomas Ken, 1674
Music attributed to Louis Bourgeois, 1551
“Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.”
Prayer after receiving: Pastor Juan
Merciful and forgiving God, the tithes and gifts we offer to you this morning are but a small portion of the blessings we have received. The Gospels remind us that Jesus instructed us to “deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow,” and yet we deny ourselves little, see the smallest of crosses as too great a burden, and follow only from a safe distance. In doing so, we cut ourselves off from deeper experiences of discipleship. Forgive us and renew our strength and discipline to walk this road with our Savior. In his holy name, we pray. Amen.
Closing Hymn: “Here I Am, Lord” #593
The United Methodist Hymnal
© 1981, 1983, 1989 Daniel L Schutte and NALR
1. “I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin my hand will save.
I have made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.
2. “I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them. They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone, give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.”
3. “I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them. My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.”
