YOUTH SUNDAY — OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR YOUTH!!

Let’s get together on Sunday, May 6th immediately after worship and help our Youth make plans for the rest of the year.
Give them an opportunity to grow in discipleship and have events to share with one another when they return.

On May 6th at 12:15 PM, there will be a Spaghetti Luncheon to help raise money for our Youth to go to various events
this year. Jordan Koonts is going to Kenya with his Grandfather to build a Habitat for Humanity house. His trip will
cost his family $2000+. We want to raise funds to help him make this trip. Others may be thinking of going to Summer
Breakaway at Louisburg College; Appalachian Trail Hike; Annual Conference Session for Youth [ACS]; the CYC Retreat or
finally The Pilgrimage. These are all wonderful opportunities for our Youth to learn more about their faith and learn to
be more committed as followers of Jesus Christ.

Sooooooooooooo, here is YOUR chance to come forward and help the children follow Jesus.

SPAGHETTI LUNCHEON

May 6, 2012

12:15 PM @ Avent Ferry United Methodist Church

Suggested Donation; $8 FOR ADULTS; $5 FOR CHILDREN

All funds will go into a special Scholarship Account for the Youth to have available to them to go to some very special
places the rest of this year!!

Our season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22, with an Ash Wednesday Worship Service in the sanctuary at 7 PM. Then on every Wednesday through Holy Week we invite members and guests to bring a picnic supper to the Fellowship Hall, enjoy it together, and then move to the sanctuary to see a segment of the devotional video 24 HOURS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD by Adam Hamilton. The video takes us step by step through the last day of Jesus’ life, shown on the very site in Jerusalem where he walked. The devotional time begins at 6:45 and lasts approximately one half hour. The meal and devotional are open to the public.

We have been learning about relational leadership styles from Steve Clabaugh, Senior Vice President in Sales Support for Allstate Benefits in Jacksonville Florida – who is also a graduate of Moody Bible Institute and Former Coordinator of Public Ministry for Chuck Colson’s Prison Fellowship. In our recent workshop he taught from the book GOOD TO GREAT by Jim Collins that people are led and things are managed, that God wants servant (not royal) leadership in the church, that in successful organizations the team and leader are equal, and that a church succeeds when the people see joy in serving others. (Philippians 2:3 “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themself.”)
