Opening Hymn: “Down by the Jordan” #3045
Worship & Song
Words © 2000 Carolyn Winfrey Gillette
Music: Erneuerten Gesangbuch, 1665; harmony by William Sterndale Bennett

“1. Down by the Jordan, a prophet named John was baptizing,
preaching a message the people found bold and surprising.
“God will forgive! Show that you’ll change how you live!
Surely God’s new day is rising!”

2. There by the river, the crowd came with great expectation:
“Are you God’s Chosen One, sent here to rescue our nation?”
“No!” John replied. “He who is mightier than I
judges and offers salvation.”

3. Jesus, you went to be baptized along with the others,
taking your place among sinners, God’s lost sons and daughters.
Then with great love, God’s Spirit came as a dove!
Your work began in those waters.

4. Here in the Church, we are baptized and filled with God’s Spirit.
Freed and forgiven, we’re welcomed with joy! Can you hear it?
This is God’s sign! This is how God says, “You’re mine!”
Let’s take the good news and share it!”

Hymn of Preparation: “God Almighty, We Are Waiting” #3047
Worship & Song
Words by Ann Bell Worley © 2005 Hope Publishing Company
Music by Roland Prichard, harmony from The English Hymnal, 1906

1. “God Almighty, we are waiting for a Savior to appear.
Meet us in our desert journey; give a sign that you are near:
burning bushes, parted waters, food aplenty in the wild.
As we look for signs and wonders, help us see you in a child.

2. God Incarnate, we are waiting for the feast day of your birth.
Looking back and looking forward to the Christ’s return to earth.
Help us to proclaim the gospel, ‘til the world is reconciled.
Let us set your holy table for each woman, man, and child.

3. God the Spirit, we are waiting for your presence here and now.
Humbled by our sinful weakness,
at your mercy we will bow.
Search our hearts and make us ready, speak in language strong and mild,
help each one of us, your people, to receive you like a child.”

Sharing of the Love Feast…….Pastor Juan
We will share monthly in the Love Feast as part of our Wesleyan heritage. It is a way of gathering as one when we cannot gather in person for the sacrament of Holy Communion. The features of the Love Feast are sharing of the bread and water while sharing in conversation together of God’s love, mercy, and grace. So please have some sort of bread and water readily available.

Love Feast Music, piano and violin: “The First Noel”, Trad. English carol, and “‘Twas in the Moon of Wintertime”, words by J Brebeuf, music- French Canadian melody.

Hymn for Love Feast:Be Present at Our Table, Lord” #621

Music: Old 100th tune, attributed to Louis Bourgeois, 1551

“Be present at our table, Lord;
be here and everywhere adored;
thy creatures bless, and grant that we
may feast in paradise with thee.”

At this time, please enjoy your meal as you discuss with one another or reflect upon the following questions:
What good news have you received or heard recently? How has God surprised you during these wild times?

Closing Hymn: “Angels We Have Heard on High” #238
The United Methodist Hymnal
Words & Music: Traditional French carol
Harmony by Austin C. Lovelace © 1964 Abingdon Press

“1. Angels we have heard on high
sweetly singing o’er the plains,
and the mountains in reply
echoing their joyous strains.
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

2. Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
which inspire your heavenly song?
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

3. Come to Bethlehem and see
Christ whose birth the angels sing;
come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

4. See him in a manger laid,
whom the choirs of angels praise;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
while our hearts in love we raise.
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!”
