Greeting: Phillip Jefferson
Opening Prayer: Phillip Jefferson
“Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.” (Book of Common Prayer, TEC, 1979)
Opening Hymn: Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing #400-R
1. “Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace.
Streams of mercy never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, mount of thy redeeming love.
2. Here I raise mine Ebenezer; hither by thy help I’m come.
And I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God.
He, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood.
3. O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love.
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above.”
Scripture Reading: Michael Lester
Joel 2:1, 27-29
Reading: Phillip Jefferson
Psalm 8
Prayer of Confession: Phillip Jefferson
“Dear God, we lower our heads before you and we confess that we have too often forgotten that we are yours. Sometimes we carry on our lives as if there was no God and we fall short of being a credible witness to You. For these things we ask your forgiveness and we also ask for your strength. Give us clear minds and open hearts so we may be a witness to You in our world. Remind us to be who You would have us to be regardless of what we are doing or who we are with. Hold us to You and build our relationship with You and with those You have given us on earth. Amen.”
Hymn of Preparation: Breathe on Me, Breath of God #420-R
By Edwin Hatch and Robert Jackson
1. “Breathe on me, Breath of God, fill me with life anew,
That I may love what thou dost love, and do what thou wouldst do.
2. Breathe on me, Breath of God, until my heart is pure,
Until with thee I will one will, to do and to endure.
3. Breathe on me, Breath of God, till I am wholly thine,
Till all this earthly part of me glows with thy fire divine.
4. Breathe on me, Breath of God, so I shall never die,
But live with thee the perfect life of thine eternity.”
Scripture Reading: Michael Lester
Acts 2:1-18, 22-24, 36-38
