The message below is from our Avent West Children’s Mentoring Program: Food items are in need for food deliveries in May.
Hello All,
I hope you are staying safe and well. While we have been delivering food each week (a mix of frozen meals from interfaith, backpack buddies from junior league, and donations of pantry items- THANK YOU ALL!) we have decided for the safety of families, volunteers, and staff to try to limit exposure further.
We plan on doing a larger delivery this coming Tuesday 4/14 and then a second planned large delivery on 5/12. We are all set for Tuesday’s delivery but if you would like to donate for the upcoming one in May we’ll be accepting food drop-offs on 5/5 and 5/12 from 10:00-12:00 at 2700 Avent Ferry Dr. and I will have a bin outside of my shop, Parallel, at 219 Bickett Blvd., between Monday and May 11th if you would like to donate at another time. I’m there on weekdays but if you drop off on the weekend shoot me a text at 919-673-0230 and I’ll make sure to go to bring it in.
From talking with families, we are requesting these items:
Beans (dried preferred but can ok)
Rice
Can tomatoes
Pasta
Peanut Butter
Cereal
Breakfast Bars
Fruit cups
Canned Fruit
In the May delivery we plan on also including grocery store giftcards from money we have received from donations. Though most homes are able to have one parent still working because construction is considered essential, most have reduced incomes from family members that worked in restaurants, retail, or cleaning companies that have scaled back. Giftcards will let families get other essentials they might need such as diapers, hygiene products, or save money they would have spent on their grocery trip to pay a necessary bill. If you would like to donate this way instead of food you can send a check made out to AventWest Children’s Mentoring at P.O. Box 33253, Raleigh NC 27636, or donate online at https://www.aventwest.com/donate-index-impact .
Thank you so much for your support in this ever-changing time. If now is not the right time for you to give, know that we will need you as a volunteer more than ever once school returns from this long disruption and will be very grateful for the donation of your time then! All of our kids from Elementary to High School (and their peers) will be affected from this event for the rest of their school career.
Thankfully at this time all our families are reporting that they are healthy which is the most important thing. I’ve added some pictures to show what we’ve been up to.
Thank you all and stay safe!!!
Anne
We have been able to give out so much already. Here is what a delivery looked like for just 4 families (and there’s stuff in the front seat!)
